On Saturday, July 14th, we held another Workroom Open Day, throwing open our doors to customers, family, suppliers and friends for a fun afternoon celebrating our wonderful world of soft furnishings. This is the third year we have held this event and it’s now something we really look forward to.
Although our customers are always welcome to visit us at any time, on a day like this we can give them our full attention and thank them for their custom and support during the year. All the team attend and enjoy showing our visitors around and answering their questions about our fabrics, equipment and making methods.
We spend weeks getting our workplace ready for the day, making all sorts of new displays and showcasing the latest fabrics and wallpapers. This year we made six completely new window treatments as well as refreshing many of the others and displaying some of our upholstered furniture along with lots and lots of lovely cushions.
Our favourite graphic designer, Dan Cook, created a really stylish invitation this year which was sent to all of our lovely clients, past and present, along with our mailing list of interior designers and leading lights from the soft furnishing world. We also hand delivered a number to local people who may not have realised they have a curtain design studio and workrooms right on their door step.
A big part of the event is us saying a huge thank you to our clients for choosing Denton Drapes when they have so many other choices. It’s really nice for us to pour them a glass of fizz and to chat with them over canapés and cake and to hear what their friends and family have had to say about the work we have done for them.
We are always very grateful to our wonderful suppliers who help to make the event special by providing us with their latest marketing material, fabric samples and leaflets. In particular we would like to thank the lovely folk at Harlequin who once again provided some super gifts for our guests which was greatly appreciated.
Customers old and new, and especially our interior design clients are always interested to observe the samples that the team create during the day. They find it fascinating to see how the finished products are created and the wide range of tools and equipment that are utilised to make even the most simple of window treatments.
Once again we were delighted to welcome a number of the country’s leading curtain makers to our workroom and to have the opportunity to meet in person some of our friends from the MyDecozo soft furnishing forum. There was a lot of interest shown in our new printed table grids and much discussion about some of the techniques we use to create Denton Drapes quality products.
Many were visiting for the first time and were very complimentary as they looked around the five main rooms that we now occupy at Water Hall Farm. Everyone who attended received one of our special Union Flag pincushions which are handmade by the workroom team and are not available for purchase.
We now have a long list of follow up appointments to fit into the diary over the next few weeks and a lot of clearing up to do as we get back to work on Monday morning. However the Denton Drapes Open Day has now become an important date in our annual calendar and we already have some great ideas to make next year’s event even better.
Despite that, if you would have liked to attend but couldn’t make it this weekend, don’t wait till next year, just pick up the phone and come and see us soon. We don’t have champagne and canapés available every day but we are always happy to talk curtains and soft furnishings over tea and biscuits.
